Hengqin Medical and Culture Highlights

The island of Hengqin and Macau are intensifying Greater Bay Area integration along with strengthened administrative coordination and economic diversification.

An example of these developments is a dynamic new medical treatment facility, as well as a museum, according to Dr Billy Chan, Chair of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Macau  (AustCham) and Founder of the Sino-Phil-Asia International Peace Foundation.

This week Dr Billy Chan led a delegation of AustCham Macau to the Hengqin TCM Tech Park, where the integration of robotics and automated machinery with Traditional Chinese Medicine research and plant extraction is well underway. The facilities feature an e-commerce centre where enterprises can manage everything from marketing studio production to live streaming for overseas markets using an E-platform.

During the tour, Nicole Ying Liang, the Deputy General Manager of Da Hengqin Development Co. Ltd., hosted a brief presentation about the company, which has been investing hundreds of millions in infrastructure. In the afternoon, she held a tea reception for the delegation, showcasing the Beeplus Business Centre, which offers fantastic facilities for businesses looking to set up offices in Hengqin. The centre features high-end conference rooms, office cubicles, large office spaces, and pantries with excellent coffee and refreshments. Besides, there is a meditation room where staff can relax. Given the time differences with overseas clients, the centre also provides bunk bed facilities for those who may need to stay overnight.

Dr Chan observed, “To our surprise, many big tech companies are already operating their offices and conducting day to day business activities there. Notable names such as Baidu, BiliBili, Red Book, TCL, Chimelong, Midea, and many others have established their presence in Hengqin.”

Moreover, Dr Chan said, “This setup allows SMEs to share facilities at a very low cost while achieving high production quality that appeals to the international market. I was really impressed by how vibrant and dynamic the Greater Bay Area is. This is very noteworthy.”

Tanya Dillon, the Queensland State Government Director of Trade and Investment, was part of the delegation. She was pleased to learn that there are already 200,000 people working here daily on various projects and 50,000 people living in Hengqin. She said it was encouraging to see these growth numbers, and will be certainly sharing the experiences and developments with her colleagues at Queensland State Government Trade and Investment office, she said.

Additionally, Serena Fong from the Australian Trade Commission, who is based at the Australian Consulate in Guangzhou, was also in attendance. Serena was eager to learn more about the Museum of the Tao River, which is set to become a remarkable facility for cultural exhibitions, retail, hospitality, and a recital hall. It promises to be a fantastic landmark for Hengqin, hosting many activities and events in the future.

Tanya said, “We also enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Ponto Plaza where the friendship and camaraderie were truly enjoyable. It’s heartening to know that our Australian Chamber is dedicated to these connections. “

She added, “I deeply appreciate AustCham Macau serving as a bridge for us. The lovely dinner at Legend Square was a fantastic way to spend the afternoon.”
