China and Cambodian Doctors’ One Belt, One Road

PRESS RELEASE June 7, 2017

“Regional Healthcare Outreach (One Belt, One Road) launches between, Macau, China and Cambodia.”

On June 15, a new Asia based medical cooperation initiative will launch called the Regional Healthcare Outreach (One Belt, One Road).

This vibrant new medical initiative is being organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), the Peking University Peoples’ Hospital, China’s National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), the Cambodia Ministry of Health, and the Doctor Alliance of Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (DA-UYFC).

“It’s an honor to facilitate such a high level visit and to have our members of the Chinese delegation to Phnom Penh. We do this as we also mark the 60th anniversary of Cambodia and China diplomatic relations next year,”explains Prof. Manson Fok, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at MUST and Chairman of the Regional Healthcare Outreach (One Belt, One Road).

Prof. Fok said, “His Excellency Prime Minister Hun Sen’s official visit to Beijing during the Belt and Road forum last month reflects on how much we have achieved and taken steps to ensure our comprehensive strategic partnership continues to strengthen in the future. Our upcoming Regional Health Outreach (One Belt One Road) visit underscores China’s shared commitments to promoting greater prosperity and healthcare collaborations in our region.”

“This will bridge better medical understanding and training regionally between members of the One Belt, One Road Initiative,” explains Prof. Jiang Boaguo.

Co-Chairman of the Regional Healthcare Outreach (One Belt, One Road), and Director for the Center of Medical Excellence at the Faculty of Health Sciences at MUST Dr. Billy Chan says, “In 2015 we met the Honorable Hun Many, who is the son of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, and his wife, the Honorable Linda Yim. They told me about their Doctor Alliance of Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (DA-UYFC)and Prof. Fok and I came down from Macau to see their work.”

Dr. Chan explains, “When we saw the shape of rural healthcare, we acted to help by donating two sonograms for women’s care.”

Dr. Chan adds, “Working closely with Professor Jiang Baoguo, President of Peking University Peoples Hospital, we established a channel to bridge his revolutionary trauma care system in China to Cambodia. This is what we are doing now for our first project in the Regional Healthcare Outreach (One Belt, One Road) platform.”

Commented the Honorable Heng Sokkung, Secretary of State of Cambodia and DA-UYFC Chairman, “We are honored to welcome the Chinese medical delegation from the National Health and Family Planning Commission Director Mr. Zhang Guoxin, Prof. Jiang Baoguo, President of Peking University Peoples’ Hospital, Prof. Manson Fok, Dr. Billy Chan, and many others from China.”

Formal talks and MOUs take place across Phnom Penh between June 15 and 17 with China’s National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), Peking University Peoples’ Hospital, Faculty of Health Sciences MUST, the Ministry of Health of Cambodia, and the Doctor Alliance of Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (DA-UYFC).
